The St. Vincent Behavioral Health Campus (SVBHC) is a transformative initiative, addressing critical gaps in LA’s behavioral health continuum.

Located in the Westlake Village neighborhood and in immediate proximity to MacArthur Park.
One of the most underserved communities in the region, which is severely impacted by homelessness, mental health crisis, and substance use disorders—this project will repurpose and rehabilitate the former St. Vincent Medical Center into a comprehensive Continuum-of-Care Behavioral Health and Supportive Housing Campus.
Spanning 1,000,000 square feet across multiple buildings and 1,200 parking spaces on 336,857 square feet of centrally located land, the cost-effective rehabilitation of this existing medical campus will be completed in phases, between April-November 2027.
As LA County’s first healthcare system, which remained operational until 2020, St. Vincent has deep roots in the community. Its transformation into a Continuum-of Care behavioral health and housing campus, and dedication to predominantly serving marginalized individuals, aligns perfectly with the contemporary challenges faced by many Californians who reside in this community.
SVBHC addresses the following highest-priority challenges faced by our community:
-
SVBHC will provide 306 inpatient behavioral health beds, 166 of which are in secured units, and 130 outpatient slots, which dramatically increases capacity in Los Angeles County.
-
SVBHC will provide a dedicated CSU, offering rapid-response care for individuals experiencing acute behavioral health episodes. This facility will alleviate the strain on local emergency departments.
-
SVBHC will offer a co-located approach to treating mental health and substance abuse disorders, ensuring seamless transitions between crisis care, residential treatment, and outpatient services. This integrated model addresses the high prevalence of co-occurring conditions, providing comprehensive care to support long-term recovery and reduce recidivism.
-
The co-location of crisis, inpatient, outpatient, prevention and early interventions eliminates the fragmented care pathways that have historically led to gaps in treatment. Community, Peer and Recovery support will be provided on campus, leveraging CalAim’s Community Support reimbursement for sustainable operations.
-
SVBHC recognizes the racial and social disparities in access to care, especially amongst marginalized groups and homeless individuals, and the need for a comprehensive approach to crisis services that emphasizes community-based treatment, prevention and residential services. SVBHC integrates inpatient residential care, outpatient services and additional step-down services into its care model.
-
As part of its comprehensive Continuum-of-Care, the Campus will feature various residential services, including an Adult Residential Facility (ARF); Interim Housing Program IHP; Recuperative-Care and Post Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH).
-
The Campus will feature a comprehensive workforce training and life building skills center, tailored for the specific needs of residents.
-
To further enhance the comprehensive approach of our Campus, it will re-utilize several aspects of the existing medical center, and will offer an outpatient dental clinic and surgical center, to serve the needs of our patients.
